‘Three Crab Catchers’
I was relaxing on the beach in good company and no usual camera gear when three cute kids came over to our peer. They soon started to play and catch crabs when I noticed that their hunt would make an excellent photo.
I took my iPhone 3gs and took a shot in rather challenging lighting conditions. The original was a typically badly exposed snapshot but the photo beneath was to me very exciting.
The photo really looked interesting but the composition needed some better framing. I love square format so I used the CropForFree app. Now, obviously this image is not perfectly square but that is not too important in this case.
Still not satisfied with the ‘raw’ image I loaded it into PerfectlyClear app where I fixed the dark shadows of the image and made it look a bit more attractive.
Next step was to convert the image into b&w. For this I used CameraBag app which offers some basic but powerful filters.
The end result is to me one of my favourite photos I have ever done. I don’t care that the quality is dubious, the content raises above that. The b&w treatment and the clothing of the boy in the middle reminded some people of Life covers from 50s. Now that is a compliment I am happy to take!
